As global demand for copper surges, driven by the energy transition and expansion of AI infrastructure, Zambia is now one of Africa’s most strategic mining jurisdictions.
When WhyAfrica visits Zambia in March on our WhyAfrica Business Trip (operated by sister company Endorphin Expeditions), our mission is to gather on the ground business intelligence, not only from boardrooms and mine sites, but from policymakers, environmental experts, infrastructure planners, farmers and local communities.

Road conditions and rail congestion is something we want to experience firsthand and on the ground, and we’ll focus specifically on these and other challenges during the drive to Kitwe, Ndola and Solwezi.
Water management, pollution control and biodiversity protection are no longer peripheral issues, but central investment considerations.
In the Copperbelt, legacy environmental challenges, aging infrastructure and urban water pressure intersect directly with production expansion ambitions.
In Solwezi and the wider North-West, rapid mine development is stretching roads, power grids and water systems to their limits, while placing unprecedented pressure on forests, rivers and agricultural land.
These challenges create extraordinary opportunity.

Zambia is uniquely positioned to pioneer a truly integrated mining-development model where copper production strengthens food security, biodiversity conservation, energy transition and regional trade simultaneously.
