The Royal Solwezi is a landmark hotel in the bustling town of Solwezi located along Old Chingola Road about 10 km south of First Quantum Minerals’ Kansanshi copper‑gold mine and roughly 15 minutes’ drive from Solwezi Airport.

The hotel serves as a convenient base for mining‑related travel and business.

Proximity to First Quantum’s Kansanshi mine

It remains a popular choice for mining executives, consultants, and professionals visiting the region due to its proximity to key operations like Kansanshi and the Lumwana copper project and its conference and business facilities.

Opened in 2007 and officially launched by then‑President Rupiah Banda to meet demand from the mining boom, the hotel has 48 rooms and self‑catering apartments and has become one of Solwezi’s more prestigious hospitality venues supporting the town’s growth as a mining hub.

We spent the night before our great site visit to Kansanshi at the Royal Solwezi Hotel.

WhyAfrica on the 2026 WhyAfrica Business Trip to Zambia

WhyAfrica visited Lusaka and surrounding areas, and the Copperbelt and North-Western Provinces of Zambia during the recent 10-day-long WhyAfrica Business Trip to Zambia, organised and operated by WhyAfrica’s sister company, tour operator Endorphin Expeditions.

During the trip we also attended the 13th edition of the Zambia International Mining & Energy Conference (ZIMEC).

The trip was made possible by the following awesome partners and sponsors: BBF Safety Group, NSDV Law, SRK Consulting, Kal Tire, Menar, Peqon, ATA International Holdings, ProjectLink, Rham Equipment, Geotheta.
